ABOUT KATIE ELLIOTT’S CLASS
Elliott’s athletic style incorporates full-bodied movement, clean articulation in the negotiation of space and quick dynamic changes in level, direction and intention. Elliott’s class format is offered as an outline through which each individual can address a unique set of goals, while being encouraged to see different perspectives in a concentrated shared experience of a supportive dance community.

With emphasis on the release, momentum, and breath of movement, each class develops vocabulary through a thorough center warm-up that is elaborated upon to help students understand how the most complex movement can evolve from the smallest gesture. Anatomically sound alignment and technical accuracy are emphasized, passionate performance strongly encouraged, and the joy of movement brought in as a constant reminder. Elliott’s movement is informed by her background in classical modern dance forms, early training in ballet and her background in visual art. Elliott received her BFA from the University of Utah and her MFA from the Hollins University/American Dance Festival program. She has taught residencies and workshops at numerous university dance programs, private schools and professional organizations nationally and internationally.

$5 CLASSES FOR PEOPLE WITH PARKINSON’S
AND OTHER MOBILITY CHALLENGES
TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS, 11:30-12:30
Regular Classes are held Tuesdays in the Gordan Gamm theater and Thursdays in Boulder Ballet Studio 3, at The Dairy Arts Center – 2590 Walnut Street in Boulder. Construction of a beautiful new West side entrance with an ADA-accessible elevator provides easy access to class spaces.
While all exercise is beneficial, dance is unique in that each class is a creative experience using narrative elements, imagery and community to develop artistry and grace while addressing PD-specific concerns such as balance, flexibility, coordination, isolation and depression. The classes engage the participants’ minds and bodies, and create a joyful, social environment that emphasizes body mind connection and movement rather than therapy.
Instructors Katie Elliott, Lisa Johnston, Hannah Kinderleher, Sarah Leversee, Jessica Pittman, Viki Psihoyos and Christine Rohde bring extensive backgrounds in ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, folk, tap, improvisation, yoga and choreographic repertory, and have all completed teacher trainings in the Mark Morris Dance for PD® training programs. Dance for Parkinson’s is part of a global network in more than 300 other communities in 25 countries around the world. The Boulder program was launched in 2013 by former New York City Ballet dancer, Viki Bromberg Psihoyos. In 2016 3rd Law Dance/Theater ‘s Artistic Director Katie Elliott began assisted Psihoyos for these classes and in 2018 3rd Law became the umbrella organization for the Boulder Dance for Parkinson’s program to support the growth of the program and connect the offerings to a local professional dance company. It is well documented that dance is one of the best ways to combat the symptoms of Parkinson’s.

CHOREOLABS-NEW OFFERINGS COMING SOON
Whether you are interested in getting a head start on a college dance program or wanting a supportive environment to find your choreographic voice, these workshops will give you the tools you need. Informed by last years’ pilot series, our new format will be a shorter workshop with focus on one choreographic investigation to develop a final piece of choreography.

A hallmark of 3rd Law’s artistic success has been the unique environment the artistic directors create with their company of dancers. 3rd Law maintains and honors the individual voices of each dancer, viewing them as a collaborators in the choreographic process. This modality is more prevalent in today’s dance world as companies move in and out of classical forms and dancers are being asked to participate in the creative process. Hone your compositional skills or just have fun learning different ways to find your unique choreographic voice.
