If you joined 3rd Law for the parking-garage performance at the 29th Street Mall during the COVID years, you already know the kind of experience this new work will deliver—unexpected spaces transformed, audiences moving through environments, and live performance unfolding in surprising ways. Uncontainable returns to that spirit of discovery with a bold new work.
Set in a near future where human interaction has largely retreated into digital space, Uncontainable imagines a renegade group of artists who secretly gather at sundown to reclaim what has been lost: the intimacy, electricity, and shared breath of being together in real time. The work is informed by memories of a not-so-distant past—when devices were turned off, conversations unfolded face-to-face, and communal experience was a daily practice in which differing ideas could coexist, collide, and be explored.
Part performance, part adventure, Uncontainable invites audiences on a new kind of journey—one that moves through space, memory, and imagination while igniting nontraditional, abandoned corners of our city with unexpected life.
The performance unfolds inside a series of shipping containers installed within the old Macy’s parking garage, a site framed by the remnants of a former cultural hub: the shopping mall. Each container becomes its own imaginative world, revealing big beauty in small spaces and celebrating the many ways people gather in:
record-listening rooms, libraries for a quiet readings, kitchens for a night cap, journeys through hidden gardens, and a shared song on a porch under the evening sky.
As audiences move from container to container, they encounter a mosaic of gathering rituals that feel both intimate and quietly radical. Uncontainable transforms overlooked architecture into a living landscape, inviting audiences to wander, discover, and remember that connection (like imagination) is uncontainable.
